Safety Consultants

Phakamisa have been operating from 1999 providing consulting, management training, plant auditing and lifting equipment to the mines and all types of major industrial plants and factories.
Our mission is to provide a specialist quality service to assist users of lifting equipment to implement and adhere to a total safe lifting program in the work place by offering to conduct the following projects:

  • Plant surveys and audits on lifting equipment to ensure legal compliance, to study various types of lifting applications and advise on correct and safe use, correct methods of inspection, records, marking, storage and all other aspects of safe lifting practice and procedure. Furthermore, hazardous applications are identified and recommendations made to improve safe lifting at
    the end of the visit.
  • Researching and compiling a customized Code of Practice for users of lifting equipment covering all aspects of safe use, care and maintenance to ensure implementation and adherence to a safe lifting program for employees and contractors on site.
  • On site, full day Advanced Safety and Technical Seminars, with written assessment and Certification. Target candidates are artisans, supervisors, inspectors, rigging staff, safety personnel and all other responsible persons involved with lifting equipment.
  • Lifting equipment inspection training and registers.
  • Lastly, all consulting and training services are personally conducted by Piet Otto, who has been actively involved in the lifting equipment industry for 50 years, in the manufacturing, marketing, inspection and training field.

We wish to inform all our clients, and other parties, that we are restructuring PHAKAMISA as follows. See our new contact details above.

Piet will commute from KZN and continue to provide training, auditing and consulting all over the RSA, as and where required.

Martin Pieters will continue to conduct training and consulting, mainly for mines and plants, as well as industry, as and where required.

Roger Day, who has joined us, will be concentrating on training and consulting mainly in KZN area, or if required, elsewhere in the country.

Emmie Steenkamp, our Office Administrator, will continue to operate from her residence in Weltevreden Park as in the past.

We have closed our Randburg office and our training centre and moved our company offices to Margate, where Piet will be based. All our Gauteng public training courses will be conducted at Amakoekoe Conference Centre in Honeydew, or elsewhere in future. We will continue with our regular public courses in JHB, Cape Town, Durban, Richards Bay and when and where required.

With Martin Pieters and Roger Day now on board, Phakamisa has expanded its specialized services and now have three lifting equipment specialists in the company, who between them have over 100 years of experience in the lifting equipment industry in manufacturing, consulting and training fields. See attached short CV's of Piet, Martin and Roger.

We are proud to advise that we have printed and provided over 12,000 lifting equipment inspection registers to date and at least 6,000 candidates have attended our LTI on site or public courses. Our training courses are registered with ECSA, through LEEASA, for CPD.

Phakamisa will be celebrating our 20th anniversary in 2019!

We wish to thank all our loyal clients for their continued support in the past and we look forward to assist them to implement and maintain a safe lifting program in futur
