Phakamisa has been operating since 1999, providing specialist management and advanced training and consulting services on lifting equipment to mines, major industrial plants and factories, as well as to lifting equipment suppliers and manufacturers and registered LME/LMIs.

Our mission is to provide a unique quality service to assist users of lifting equipment to implement and adhere to a Total Safe Lifting Program in the workplace by offering the following services and projects:

  • Plant audits, surveys and inspections on lifting equipment in use. During the visit, the various types of lifting applications are studied to advise the client on correct and safe use, correct methods of inspection, records, marking, and storage, as well as legal compliance and other aspects of safe lifting practice and procedure. Furthermore, hazardous lifting applications are identified, and recommendations are made to improve safe lifting, and the written report is submitted after completion of the visit.

  • Researching and compiling Codes of Practice or Works Procedures for users of lifting equipment covering all aspects of the client’s requirements for safe use, care and maintenance to ensure implementation and adherence to a safe lifting programme for employees as well as contractors.

  • We offer the following lifting equipment training courses:

    1. Lifting Equipment Legal, Technical and Management course (LELTC)

    2. Lifting Tackle Inspection course (LTI)

    3. Basic Rigging and Inspection course (BSI)

    4. Chain Block & Lever Hoist course (CB&LH)

    5. Advanced Slinging and Inspection course (ASI – 2-day course)

      These courses have been compiled for selected LMIs, LTIs, and LME staff, as well as engineering staff, artisans, supervisors, inspectors, riggers, rigging staff, SHEQ, safety and purchasing personnel, and planners.

  • Phakamisa also supplies lifting equipment inspection legal compliance registers, stores control registers, safety posters and other up-to-date lifting equipment safety updates and consulting services.

Piet Otto is a registered ECSA LMI and ex-council member of LEEASA, and he is assisted by Martin Pieters and Roger Day, who form the Phakamisa team that presents lifting equipment consulting and training services. Between these three subject matter experts, they have over 130 years of combined lifting equipment experience. All costs for services and training are relative to the scope of the required consulting or training project, and full details will be provided on application.
